DOCTOR WHO

Here is another one for the SPLATTER PORTRAIT SERIES - David Tennant as the immortal Doctor!

11 X 14, pencil, watercolor, prismacolors on bristol. - I was going to paint in his face with some flesh tones, but he just looked a little more spooky and mysterious all white...

Enjoy,

Indiana Jones and Machete

I've been experimenting a bit with different combinations of mediums and techniques.

INDIANA JONES featuring Harrison Ford as he appeared in 'Temple of Doom' - this is a homage to my favorite shot in the film... Done on watercolor paper 9 X 12 using pen & ink pens of various gray tones. I painted in the background and added some spatter, but I didn't like the spatter and I tried to cover it up - this resulted in the watercolor smearing and just screwed up the edges... but I was able to get it cleaned up and it came out much better! But learned a lesson in watercolors on this one - you can't paint a water based white over the watercolors!

MACHETE! Danny Trejo as Machete from the upcoming film - his face is so cool, I couldn't resist drawing him. Again I wanted to try something a little different, but more in my old pen & ink sketchy style. 11 X 14 on bristol paper with watercolors. Came out pretty good.

Indiana Jones is FOR SALE - please contact me if you are interested.

BATMAN & FRANKY!

Here are a couple of new paintings just completed! Both are acrylic on canvas.

The first one is BATMAN as played by Adam West, the portrait is based off the infamous 1966 LIFE magazine cover. Say what you will about Adam West's portrayal, he is still my number one Batman, and I can't stop painting him!

The second is another in a series of monster caricature portraits. I'm really digging painting Frankenstein, I'm not sure what it is about him, he's just such a cool subject. Again based on the Karloff version!

BATMAN!

I'm on this Batman TV series kick lately... Was siting here in the office nursing a migraine while the kids did their homework and decided to slap a little paint around.

8 x 10 acrylics on canvas board!

JOKER!

Here is my spin on all the rad hot-rod weirdos of the 60's - with a little bit of inspiration from Ed "Rat Fink" Roth.

This was a tough'y, I've never painted any sort of hot-rod art before, but wanted to do something that I thought was interesting, putting the JOKER in the famous Batmobile with all the trimmings - flaming tires, big gearshift knobs and bulging eyes... Yeah that's a dead Robin doll! *sharp bat-fans will get the meaning.

FRANKEN'Clown

I have neglected the blog of late... So I thought it fitting that I update with a piece I finished last night. This piece has been sitting penciled on the canvas for over a month, and I figured it about time to put it to paint - and to boot I wanted to do it in one day! After 13 straight hours of painting I think the end result came out pretty cool!

I Just had this image rattling around in my brain of Frankenstein as the clown Pagliacci. I had originally envisioned Franky with full-on clown make up, but it looked so much more menacing and sad without it!

Enjoy,

The Bride!

The Bride of Frankenstein, with a lot of Elsa Lanchester thrown in!
I'm not entirely happy with the way this one came out - I may go back and do some additional fine tuning.

Franky, The Creature & Dracula!

Three of my most recent pieces - Acrylics on canvas board 9x12.
Franky was painted in about 4 hours and based on a quick-sketch I did about 2 years ago, while Creature was done in about 7 hours - originally I had the Creature sucking on a big-gulp cup through a straw, but visually is was distracting - so I swapped out the straw for Nemo... I think it came out much funnier! Dracula, you can't think Dracula and not think Lugosi - wanted a little bit of him and wanted to do Drac without having to show fangs!

These are the first of a series of Famous Monster caricatures I hope to exhibit and sell!
